Here is some interesting information listed below about the River Corridor Project!

Keeper of the Plains

  • The Keeper stands approximately 43 feet tall.

  • The Keeper was raised 30’ from his former position.

  • It faces due east, as originally intended by the artist.

River Notes

  • The confluence of the two rivers is the place “where two sacred rivers meet” and is therefore of special significance to the Native American community.

  • The idea of the sacred hoop and the 4 elements that make up life (Earth, Air, Fire, and Water) were used as the organizing tools to create a unique experience that is fun, educational, and hopefully inspirational for the community and visitors of Wichita.

Bridge Notes

  • HNTB were the Design Consultants on the pedestrian bridges.

  • Peter Harrison, PE was the Resident Engineer for HNTB.

  • Bridge Pier Towers are a unique bowed triangular configuration and will extend 117 feet above water.

  • They will have an 81 degree angle.

  • Both bridges are continuous cable-stayed with 10-foot wide walking path.

  • Over 500 cubic yards of concrete in each bridge.

  • Over 200 tons of steel in each bridge.

  • Largest cable tension is 578,000 pounds.

  • Bridge over Little Arkansas River spans 251 feet.
