The Keeper of the Plains “Ring of Fire” is out of service while the manufacturer redesigns the firepot ignition units, which are not working reliably, possibly due to the high temperatures in the confined space of the firepots.
The City will not be charged for the repairs, because the firepots are under warranty.
The temperature in the firepots reaches 600 degrees Fahrenheit each time they ignite; during cold winter weather, extreme temperature fluctuation creates problems.
A new design has been developed, but it will have to be approved by a product safety review group before it can be tested and installed. The review and approval process could require several weeks.
An announcement will be made when the “Ring of Fire” returns to service.
