As the 2002 Wichita River Festival comes to a close, the City’s "Don't Trash Wichita" efforts continue. On Sunday, May 19, the City will sponsor its second River Trash Round-Up and are looking for volunteers to join the effort. Various City departments will join volunteers as groups take portions of the Arkansas River from the Lewis Street Bridge to Exploration Place. Volunteers should first come to the grassy area by the Hyatt, across the street from the Boathouse, to pick up trash bags and get trash instruction. The River Trash Roundup is part of the National River Cleanup Week, which is designated for May 11-18.
We need your help! Come by and make our river even more beautiful. Remember, our river is our responsibility. Volunteers should wear the following:
- Long pants
- Long sleeve shirts
- Hat or scarf
- Work gloves
- Sunscreen
The first River Trash Round-Up, held April 20, was a great success. Nearly 75 volunteers came out to pick up a ton of trash. We are hoping for an even greater turnout this Sunday. We encourage everyone to come out and join us at the River Trash Round-Up. For more information, visit our website at www.wichita.gov.
