The clubhouse at Auburn Hills Public Golf Course, 443 S. 135th St. West, will be dedicated in memory of former Wichita City Councilmember Bob Martz during a naming ceremony and golf tournament beginning at noon, May 23.
Councilmember Martz died in office on Jan. 17, 2007. During his tenure in city government, he was actively involved in the planning and creation of the Auburn Hills course. Golf Week Magazine has recognized the course as one the top five municipal courses in Kansas.
The dedication ceremony at noon will feature the unveiling of a commemorative plaque by Martz’ widow, Sandy, along with comments from Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer and Councilmember Jeff Longwell, who succeeded Martz as the District 5 council member.
The golf tournament, a four-person scramble event, begins at 1 p.m. Proceeds from the tournament will support the Bob Martz Scholarship Fund created by the Wichita Junior Golf Foundation.
Individual tournament entry fees are $50 a person. Golf carts and lunch will be provided, along with prizes for three flights of competition. Participants also receive a free round of golf at any of the five local public courses.
Hole sponsorships in support of the Wichita Junior Golf Foundation scholarship are also available at $250.
