Space Added for Limousines and Charter Buses
City of Wichita officials have added two more drop-off and pick-up locations in Old Town and expanded the space in other locations to accommodate limousines and charter buses. In effect 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. daily, five zones exist in Old Town.
One new zone is located on the north side of Douglas, west of Larkspur, east of Emerson Biggins; the second, on the south side of the Cinema Plaza on Second Street. The remaining three locations are:
- On the south side of First Street, east of Mosley
- On the north side of Second Street, east of Mosley
- And on the north side of Douglas, west of Mead.
The Second and Mosley location has been extended to accommodate limousines and charter buses. The zones are solely for pick-up and drop-off. Vehicles that are not taxis, charter buses or limousines can be fined at least $100 for parking in the zones during designated times. Fine amounts - posted on the signage - are strictly enforced. After a review from Old Town stakeholders, the Wichita City Council designated the zones in 2005 in an effort to reduce traffic congestion and increase pedestrian safety.
