Widening From 119th St. West to Maize Road
A $4.5 million project to reconstruct 29th Street North from 119th Street West to Maize Road will begin July 30. Completion is expected by April 2008.
The project will widen 29th Street from two lanes four, with a center left-turn lane and medians. Left turn lanes will also be added on Maize Road at 29th, and significant drainage systems will be built throughout the project.
Construction will be performed in three phases, each with different effect on traffic:
Phase 1: 29th Street will be closed from Maize Road to a quarter-mile west of Maize Road. Through traffic will detour south to 21st Street. Two-way traffic will be maintained on 29th Street west of the closed area. During this phase, the contractor will install underground box culverts and construct pavement. The west side of Maize Road will also be widened north and south of 29th Street. This portion of 29th Street is expected to re-open to traffic by approximately October 15, 2007. Two-way traffic will be maintained on Maize and 119th. Left turns will be restricted for southbound Maize Road at 29th Street.
Phase 2: 29th Street will be closed to eastbound traffic while the south half of 29th Street is constructed. Eastbound traffic will be detoured south to 21st Street. Construction activity will widen the east half of Maize Rd and begin reconstruction of the east half of the 29th St. and 119th St. intersection. Two-way traffic will be maintained on Maize and on 119th. Left turns will be restricted for both southbound Maize Road and southbound 119th at 29th .
Phase 3: 29th Street will be open to two-way traffic during construction of the north half of 29th Street. Construction will continue on the northeast quadrants of both 119th and Maize Road intersections at 29th Street. Two-way traffic will be maintained on Maize and 119th.
