Airfares to Denver and the west are coming down! Frontier Airlines, the low-fare leader based in Denver, has announced it will begin low-fare service to Denver and the west from Wichita Mid-Continent Airport on October 1. Wichita was one of over 60 cities vying for their low-fare service. Fares to the west have increased as much as 74% since 2004.
“This is a great day for the thousands of people who have had to drive to other airports for affordable fares to western destinations. Frontier service will enable businesses to grow, families to connect, and opportunities for conventions and tourism to increase. It will undoubtedly be a tremendous boost to our economy,” remarked Mayor Carl Brewer.
“Frontier’s reentry into this market with its operating subsidiary, Lynx Aviation, shows Frontier’s commitment to Wichita and understanding of our need for affordable fares. The low fares that Frontier will bring to this market will force other airlines to lower fares on competing routes as well, so it is important to support the airline responsible for lowering fares,” stated Victor White, Director of Airports.
Introductory one-way fares to Denver are $109, or $218 round-trip (taxes and fees not included) for a 21-day advance purchase ticket. The same round-trip fare researched at United Airlines on July 2 was $560.80. This is a reduction in fares of about 60%.

Frontier was ranked no. 1 in the “best award” category for U.S. airlines, beating out large carriers such as United and Southwest, and was voted “Best Low-Cost Carrier” by Business Traveler Magazine in 2006. Their frequent flyer program – EarlyReturns – was voted tops in polls by frequent travelers.
“Attracting Frontier Airlines is a major coup for Wichita. Frontier’s low fares and strong commitment to customer service will be a tremendous asset to the air service offerings at Mid-Continent Airport. Frontier will bring low fares to destinations such as Denver, Seattle, Phoenix, Albuquerque, Tucson, San Diego, and San Francisco, to name a few. Frontier officials commented that they were impressed with the e-mails sent to “Humphrey” and said they showed the strong support for Frontier service in this market. All those who participated in the e-mail campaign should give themselves a pat on the back,” commented Valerie Wise, Air Service & Business Development Manager.
Frontier will operate the new 74-seat Bombardier Q400, which is quiet, fast and fuel-efficient. It is roomier than a regional jet, with large overhead storage compartments and comfortable seats. From Denver, you will connect to either a 132-passenger Airbus A319 jet or a 114-passenger Airbus A318 jet. Frontier provides low fares all over the U.S., eight cities in Mexico, two in Canada, and will begin service to San Jose, Costa Rica on November 30.
