IMA of Kansas, Inc. and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company on Wednesday, June 21, awarded the Wichita Fire Department a $20,300 grant to enhance public education with lifesaving information on fire prevention and the hazards around individuals that require bottle oxygen and also smoke. The grant will provide funding to purchase a state-of-the-art Hazard House which allows individuals to identify hazards in a home, and correct the safety hazard under direct supervision of a trained firefighter.
Working through local schools and community events, the program will positively impact more than 35,000 elementary students in Wichita.
“Providing public education to the community allows us to be proactive instead of reactive,” said Fire Chief Bricknell of the Wichita Fire Department. “This grant will allow us to add bottle oxygen safety to our public education program and additional educational resources to help improve public safety in our community.”
