City of Wichita police officer Alexis Robinson is the 2006 Excellence in Public Service Award honoree for the City Of Wichita. Robinson, a sergeant, was honored at a reception today at CityArts, along with DeAnn Konkel, a public safety liaison with Sedgwick County and Julie Hedrick, director of design and construction with the Wichita Public School District.

Robinson’s supervisor, Lt. Chris Bannister, said Robinson’s commitment to citizens goes beyond a 40 hour week. “He dedicates countless hours of his free time to his family, church, community and his profession,” Bannister said. “He is a fantastic example of a home-grown hero and is well deserving of this award."

Wichita Police Chief Norman Williams also praised Robinson, a 21-year-veteran who works at the Patrol East Bureau. During his career, Alex has been a strong proponent of community policing. He has been the recipient of numerous Departmental awards, including the Bronze Wreath of Merit, the Civic Achievement Award, two Distinguished Service Awards, the five-year Perfect Attendance Award and the five and 10-year Safe Driving Awards.  He also donates a considerable amount of time to his community.  He is a mentor to area youth. He has involved himself in numerous events including organizing police officers to “adopt” Allen Elementary and tutor several students who have received the Good Apple Award from the Wichita School Board in 2006.   In addition, Alex has supported multiple Big Brothers/Big Sisters events and gives his time to the Boys and Girls Club.  He was also recently trained to serve as a member of the Wichita Housing and Community Services Department’s Section 8 Division.

“Sergeant Robinson has demonstrated tremendous commitment and dedication to serving the citizens of Wichita,” Williams said. “He has been an exceptional role model for the youth of Wichita.” The 19th annual Excellence in Public Service Awards program is sponsored by the DeVore Foundation. The award recognizes employees of the City of Wichita, Sedgwick County and the Wichita Public School System who exhibit the highest standards of dedication and provide exemplary service when carrying out responsibilities. Three award recipients are selected each year, one from each organization. Each honoree will receive $2,500.
