Carole Ochs has been hired as Human Resources Director for the City of Wichita. Ochs has 18 years experience in human resources, organizational development and personnel training. A Wichita North High graduate who was raised in Wichita, Ochs attended Wichita State University and Butler County Community College.
She is currently the South Central regional director for Kansas 1st, a workforce and economic development program within the Kansas Department of Commerce. At Kansas 1st, where she has been employed since December 2004, Ochs connects job seekers, educators and business programs in an effort to provide employees, financial resources and training to Kansas businesses.
"With her experience and skill set, I am confident that Carole will be able to guide our human resources efforts toward goals we have established for this organization," City Manager George Kolb said.
"I’m looking forward to working with the City’s leadership team and H.R. Team in making Wichita a great place to work and live," Ochs said. "Great things are in store for the 3,300 employees and citizens of the city."
Before joining Kansas 1st, Ochs was vice president of human resources at Thayer Aerospace headquarters, from June 2002 to November 2004. She oversaw human resources functions, organizational development and corporate communications for 450 employees across six divisions.
She had previous stints as a self-employed business consultant; vice president of organizational development for Right Management, a national consulting firm; and director of training and development at The Coleman Company. She was also business instructor at Wichita Area Vocational Technical College.
Ochs will begin working for the City within 30 days.
