Work on the large storm drain system being built west of downtown Wichita is nearing the intersection of 1st and Meridian. A large concrete box structure will be installed across Meridian, and a 36-inch water main will be installed at the same time.
The work will require a three-week closure of the intersection of Meridian and 1st Street to minimize traffic and construction safety concerns, and to ensure the quality of the concrete box structure, water line installation and street reconstruction. This is similar to the closure of McLean at Athenian for the same project, earlier this year.
The 1st and Meridian closure is tentatively scheduled to begin approximately 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 26 and will be completed on or before 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 17. The closure may be delayed if weather conditions next week are not conducive to the work.
During the street closure, traffic on Meridian will be detoured using Second Street and Douglas.
