The City of Wichita "first sweep" effort for limb clean-up has continued to progress east and west from the center of the City. Crews continue to move east and west and are working in areas between Tyler Road and to the westernmost city limits on the west side, and between Woodlawn and the easternmost city limits on the east side. This will continue through next week. Also, primary arterial streets (21st Street, for example), will be cleaned up on the weekends so not to disrupt heavier traffic flow during the weekdays.
Crews will also begin the second sweep of the city, starting at Hydraulic and working both east and west. Public Works encourages citizens to be sure their limbs are at curbside as soon as possible. This will ensure that these limbs are picked up. Remember that if vehicles are parked in front of the limbs, they will not be picked up. And, because of the equipment in use, there may be smaller limbs left behind. Please dispose of those as you see fit.
Since the January 4 ice storm, much has been done. Currently, the clean up progresses with 1,000 tons of debris taken to Brooks Landfill per day. Crews continue to work 7 days a week. Many City employees have worked considerable hours to make this as efficient as possible. To date, 40,000 tons have been picked up since the clean up began.
Wichitans may continue to take tree limb debris from the January 4 ice storm FREE OF CHARGE to Brooks Landfill is located at 4100 N. West Street. It will be open through Saturday, MARCH 5 from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM.
Citizens may also check the clean-up progress of the on the City of Wichita web site, www.wichita.gov where a map will illustrate the parts of the city already cleared of debris.
