A tip from a local news station directed Wichita Police to a suspicious package in a rural area northwest of Wichita on Tuesday, January 25, 2005. Police believe the package could possibly be connected to BTK and have submitted the contents to the Federal Bureau of Investigation for authentication.

The package was located on North Seneca Street, a dirt road that runs between 69th and 77th Streets. Police want to talk to anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in this area between January 14 and January 25, 2005.

The tip that was received by the Wichita television station indicated that another possible BTK communication was dropped on January 8, 2005. Last night, through investigation, WPD located communication number seven that could be from BTK, according to Lieutenant Ken Landwehr, Commander of the BTK investigation.

The Police Department continues to pursue tips and leads on the BTK case, and has received more than 5,000 tips from the public since BTK resurfaced in March 2004.

Police encourage any citizen with information to contact them at 1-866-SOLVBTK (1-866-765-8285) between 9 AM and 5 PM. After-hours callers may call the Crime Stoppers number at (316) 267-2111. Citizens can also e-mail information to mailto:coldcase@wichita.gov or mail information to Cold Case, P.O. Box 9202, Wichita, KS 67277-0202.

The Police Department has received assistance from a number of other agencies including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, the Sedgwick

County Regional Forensic Science Center and the Office of the District Attorney. The Wichita Police Department appreciates all the assistance from the public, and assisting agencies, in this investigation.
