For the second year, the “River Trash Round-up” will kick off the “Don’t Trash Wichita” anti-litter program. It will make the City even more beautiful for the 2003 River Festival. On Saturday, May 3 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., the City of Wichita and Entercom Wichita, which owns five of the City’s top radio stations, is sponsoring a “River Trash Round-up.” Each station will take portions of the Arkansas River from the Lewis Street Bridge to Exploration Place to have volunteers come out and clean it up.
There will be complimentary pizza provided by Papa John’s and radio personalities from the stations on hand to rally support. Participating Entercom radio stations are AM stations KFH 1330 and KNSS 1240. FM stations are KEYN 103.7, KDGS 93.9, and KFBZ 105.3. In addition, the Wrangler’s have agreed to host a post-party for all who participate in the clean up on Sunday, May 4. Free tickets to this game will be available at Saturday’s clean-up event.
We need your help! Come by to do a good deed for Earth Day (if you didn’t celebrate on April 22) and make the Earth you live on even more beautiful. Volunteers should wear the following:
- Long sleeve shirts
- Sensible shoes with traction
- Work gloves
- Sunscreen
Everyone is encouraged to join the River Trash Round-Up! This will also count for community volunteer hours for those students who are nearing the end of the school year and needing time. For more information, call the City Manager’s Office at 268-4351.
The City of Wichita also wants to remind folks attending the River Festival to take out what you bring in to keep Wichita clean. After the River Festival, on Sunday, May 18, the group will return to clean up after the River Festival is over to keep it beautiful for the citizens of Wichita. This is part of the National River Cleanup Week that is scheduled for May 11-18.
