The City of Wichita is in the process of looking ahead to the year 2050 to determine how to best serve the needs of citizens when it comes to wastewater treatment and sanitary sewers. As part of the planning process, City officials will hold the third in a series of Citizen Review and Comment Sessions.

The session will be Thursday, July 27 at 7 PM. It will be broadcast on City of Wichita TV/Channel 7 before a live audience and with real time citizen input on the Internet.

This is the third in a series of Citizen Review and Comment Sessions. The sessions are designed to inform citizens about the development of the Sanitary Sewer Master Plan, the reasons for the decisions being made and more importantly, to hear and consider citizen ideas and concerns as the final document is drafted.

The purpose of the Sanitary Sewer Master Plan is to identify services that will be needed to meet the City's growth over the next 20 to 50 years. It recommend the most cost-effective plan for upgrading and expanding the facilities to meet those needs. The most recent Sanitary Sewer Master Plan was adopted in 1992. In 1997, the City looked at the sewer needs for northwest Wichita. In 1998, the needs for northeast Wichita were studied. Now, the City has hired the engineering firm of Brown & Caldwell, in conjunction with the local firm of Professional Engineering Consultants (PEC), to update the 1992 City-wide Sewer Master Plan.
