Four businesses will be recognized during Tuesday’s Wichita City Council meeting, for helping sustain the success of the City of Wichita’s Emerging and Disadvantaged Business Program. Awards will be presented to two Emerging Business Enterprises (EBE) and two Prime Contractors that have participated in the City’s purchasing process.
The Emerging Businesses (EBE’s) are:
-
AAA Commercial Janitorial, which has three janitorial contracts with the City; and
-
VendTech Enterprise, which has a security service contract for the Downtown Transit Center with the City.
The Prime Contractors are:
-
APAC-Kansas, Inc., which has sub-contracted more than $974,000.00 to EBE’s, small, minority and women-owned vendors on City projects from July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009; and
-
Key Construction Inc., which has used small, minority and women-owned vendors beyond sub-contracting opportunities on projects such as the WaterWalk and mentors small and minority-owned vendors throughout the city.
This is the Emerging Business program’s fourth year. Its success stems from a collaboration of City staff, EBE vendors, prime contractors and sub-contractors. The recognition comes the same month as National Minority Enterprise Development (MED) week, which observes the achievements of minority business enterprises and honors corporations and institutions that support minority business development.
