Trolley to Run 6 Days a Week
Wichita Transit will expand the Q-Line shuttle service from three to six days a week beginning today. Shuttles will run in the downtown area from 6p.m. - 10p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6p.m. - midnight on Friday and from noon to midnight on Saturday. The trolleys will not be available on Sunday.
The Q-line has become part of riders’ leisure activities in the Old Town area. Visitors and groups like the convenience and the service is free. With the new Intrust Bank Arena opening in January, the Q-Line will provide a valuable service to those attending events at the Arena and other attractions downtown.
“We are excited to be able to make the Q-Line a full-time service,” Wichita Transit Director Mike Vinson said. “This will enable us to connect downtown venues to Old Town, the Keeper of the Plains, Lawrence–Dumont Stadium, Century II, the Hyatt and WaterWalk. It will enhance the city’s infrastructure improvements and provide a transportation alternative for those choosing to live downtown. The Q-Line is the core area transportation service that will be highlighted in the Downtown Revitalization Master Plan as well as the Parking and Mobility Plan for the Intrust Bank Arena. I would like to thank the City of Wichita, Sedgwick County and the Wichita Downtown Development Corporation for making this happen.”
The expanded Q-Line trolley service is funded with $66 thousand from the City of Wichita and $93 thousand from Sedgwick County. For route schedules and information about the Q-Line and other Transit services, go to www.theqline.com or call (316) 265-7221.
