Wichita City Council member Jeff Longwell has been appointed to an economic impact working group within in the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT).
The group is charged with examining how KDOT’s transportation programs have supported economic development and with developing options for leveraging future transportation funds to benefit the state’s economy.
“The group will meet monthly to help ensure that KDOT is aligning transportation with the Kansas economy,” Longwell said. “We want to make sure KDOT is spending money wisely as possible.”
The group will be asked to comment on future program configurations and various investment scenarios. It will review approaches to link transportation and the Kansas economy, including using economic input to select programs and projects, enhance economic development set-aside programs and cultivate better relationships with the business community.
Input from this group will be forwarded to other working groups within KDOT.
