Wichita Board of Appeals of Plumbers and Gas Fitters Minutes Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008 Present: Terry Irwin, Keith Brewer, Andy Veatch, David Lefler and Leon Breedlove Absent: Don Vaughn, Sr., Jerry Short Staff: Sharon Dickgrafe, w/ Law Department, Billie Vines w/ Water Department, Sara Runa, w/ Sewage Treatment, Dana Hamilton, w/ Sewage Treatment, Kurt Schroeder, David Laws and Kim Mudd Guests Present: Lonny Wright; Dan Leidy, w/PACK; John Shepherd, w/ Local Union 441; Ray Frederick w/ Frederick Heating & Air; Ron Means, w/ Means Construction; and Steve Osborn w/ Halls-Culligan Chairman, Terry Irwin called the meeting to order. Keith Brewer, seconded by David Lefler, moved to accept the February minutes, motion carried 5 - 0. Discussion was held on the amendments and accepting the gas tables from the Mechanical Code to the Plumbing Code. David Lefler, seconded by Keith Brewer, to accept the International Gas Fitters gas charts to the Uniform Plumbing Code, motion carried 5 – 0. Keith Brewer, seconded by David Lefler, moved to table the discussion on the single/double sanitary tee to be eliminated from the amendments, motion died, motion carried 5 – 0. Dan Leidy, with the PACK Association volunteered to research more on the 4” double sanitary tee with 2” inlets and the board accepted his services. Lonny Wright reported that the governor had signed the Continuing Education Bill. Discussion was held on water softeners and the process of installation, certification and licensing. Steve Osborn, with Halls-Culligan informed the board that members of the Water Quality Association had to have Continuing Education hours. Sharon Dickgrafe volunteered to work on the ordinance on testing, certification and licensing of water softeners. David Laws requested some clarification on Laundromats. After discussion, no action was taken. Steve Osborn left the meeting. Sharon Dickgrafe discussed the new scrap metal ordinance that was being developed. Major discussion was held on the article Bill Vines wrote on sump pumps that was published in the last CINCH. Dana Hamilton and Sara Runa left the meeting. David Lefler, seconded by Andy Veatch to adjourn the meeting, motion carried 5 – 0. Ron Means asked for a clarification on his concerns on the plumbing code, and where the board was heading. After discussion, everything seemed to be clear. Ray Frederick told the board that the Mechanical board was moving toward an ordinance on fire place certification, testing and licensing.
