WICHITA HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD MINUTES 8 November 2004 CITY HALL, 455 N. MAIN, 10TH FLOOR-MAPD CONFERENCE ROOM 3:00 P.M. The regular meeting of the Historic Preservation Board was held Monday, October 11th, 2004 at 3:00 P.M. in the Metropolitan Area Planning Department Conference Room, City Hall, Tenth Floor, 455 N. Main, Wichita, Kansas. ITEM NO. 1 ROLL CALL The meeting was called to order and board members stated their names. She should have figures that reflect current activity, including the loans, for the December meeting. ITEM NO. 4 CORRESPONDENCE Letter from Kansas SHPO announcing the retirement of Richard Pankratz. ITEM NO. 5 APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE 13 SEPTEMBER 2004 BOARD MEETING Motion #1: Motion was made by Cavanaugh, seconded by Steiner, to approve the minutes from the 11 October 2004 regular meeting. Motion carried unanimously (6-0). ITEM NO. 8 MISCELLANEOUS MATTERS 1. Update on Soldiers and Sailors monument : KM reviewed the history of the repairs and other work done to the monument, including damage caused by contractor. Because funding for the work came from a Heritage Trust Fund grant, the Kansas SHPO will be monitoring any work done on the monument and the exterior of the Courthouse for the next five (5) years. In addition, the Wichita Historic Preservation Office has informed the County that they are not to use sandblasting or waterproofing sealant on the Courthouse or monument. 2. Willenberg requested an update on 1065 N Waco, the Sternberg House. KM reported that there has been some intervention by the Historic Preservation Office in the repairs being made to the chimneys to ensure work meets the Secretary's Standards. There will be steel I beams used for foundation support and as much of the original brick as is possible will be re-used in the chimneys. 3. Kathy Morgan is giving a realtors seminar in Salina on November 18th. She has offered to reserve a City for transportation if Board members would like to attend. 4. Kathy Morgan is submitting a grant for a workshop in October 2005 on building repairs, existing building code, tax credits, etc. 5. George Platt is giving a presentation on Frank Lloyd Wright at the WSU Ablah Library, 7:00pm on Thursday, November 11th. 6. The Board discussed possible dates and locations for the Annual Board Retreat. Dates were Jan 10th, Feb 14th, and Mar 14th in 2005. The Eaton Hotel and Wellington Place were suggested for locations. KM will look into location possibilities and the Board members will choose a date and submit choices.
