Advance Plans Committee: 2003-4 Comprehensive Plan Update Summary of Meeting #5 7:30 am, October 2, 2003 Attendance Committee Members: Kerry Coulter, Morris Dunlap, Bud Hentzen, Ron Marnell, John McKay, M.S. Mitchell, MAPD staff: Dave Barber, Nalini Johnson, Stephen Banks Discussion Summary Future Land Use Guide Map Review: The Committee proceeded to review three sector maps prepared by staff covering the areas bounded by 47th Street on the south, Meridian and Arkansas on the east, 53rd Street on the north and Maize Road on the west. The Committee offered the following comments regarding these sector maps. ? The area west of the intersection of MacArthur and Maize Road should be designated as a mix of local commercial, employment and institutional. ? The 2010 and 2030 Wichita Urban Service Area lines should be based upon logical development of parcels and tracts, rather than an arbitrary conceptual line. ? The green wedges are not appropriate and should be deleted from the map since they can only be initiated by the affected cities based upon their own locational criteria and financial resources. ? The Mid-Continent Airport Authority lands and all associated developments thereon should have a new designation "Airport Authority", rather than just institutional or transportation. Need to look at Boeing and McConnell again to clarify land area owned by the Federal Government and also designate/flag/footnote the ACUZ noise constraints there. ? Richitie's aggregate development along the east side of Ridge Road should be designated long term as urban residential, excepting for the office complex located immediately east of Ridge Road. ? The Maize airport strip needs to be designated as transportation. ? Areas immediately west of West Street between 21st Street and 37th Street should be designated long term for urban residential, rather than employment center, due to the number sand pit lakes that have been created there. Meeting adjourned at 8:30 am. Next meeting set for Thursday, November 6th at 7:30 am, Planning Director's Conference Room, 10th Floor City Hall.
