Mayor Bob Knight and the Wichita City Council are proclaiming August Project ReDirectory Month to encourage area residents and businesses to recycle their old telephone books. The Proclamation will be issued at the City Council meeting, Tuesday, August 7.
The City of Wichita is a major partner in Project ReDirectory and to make sure the thousands of telephone books used at City Hall are recycled, there will be a one day, "Phone Book Recycling Blitz” on Thursday, August 2, from 8 AM-4 PM.
A City Public Works dump truck will be parked on Main Street in front of City Hall. Employees from every City department will take their old phone books to the truck and toss them in. After that, they can pick up the department’s new telephone directories, which will be distributed from the basement of City Hall. At the end of the day, the truckload of phone books will be taken to the Weyerhaeuser Recycling Center.
In Wichita, Project ReDirectory drop-off bins are located at all Dillons Grocery Stores.
Drop-off bins will also be set-up at the Sedgwick County Zoo, Botanica, and Weyerhaeuser. On Tuesday, August 14, Botanica will offer $2 off the price of admission when you bring in an old telephone book to recycle. The Zoo will have a free day on Friday, August 17. You must bring in an old phone book for free admission.
Project ReDirectory runs from now until September 7.
