Sharon Fearey is a Wichita native who diligently serves the citizens of this community. She has a vision for the future and a drive to preserve Wichita’s rich heritage. She has represented the City as Council Member for Wichita’s 6th District, since April 2001.
Prior to joining the Wichita City Council, she was a member of the Historic Preservation Board for 10 years. Keeping the character of Wichita’s diverse neighborhoods is a top priority for Sharon. She is an active board member and former president of the Historic Midtown Citizens Association.
Sharon is also an advocate for citizens behaving responsibly during the holiday season. In this effort, she has been a proponent of the Celebrate Safely campaign to end celebratory gunfire for several years.
Sharon knows first hand how citizen involvement can bring about great change for our community. She served as the co-chair for the 2000 USD 259 Bond Master Plan and Vice Chair for the very successful 2000 Bond Election Campaign that brought much needed renovations to aging Wichita public schools as well as the addition of some new educational facilities.
In addition to her duties as a Council Member, Fearey serves on committees and boards for various organizations including the Wichita Downtown Development Corporation, the Old Cowtown Museum and The Kansas African American Museum. She is also a member of the Wichita Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. She is a tutor for John Marshall Middle School and serves on the Visioneering Wichita Steering Committee.
Sharon is an alumna of Wichita Heights High School, Kansas State University and has a Masters of Science degree in Personnel Administration from Wichita State University. She is married to Dr. Alan Fearey and they are the proud parents of two daughters, Alana and Laura.
