Sue Schlapp has been a Wichita resident since 1980. Since joining the community, she has been an active participant in many ways. Sue has always had an interest in politics and its role in people’s lives and she uses that interest and enthusiasm to encourage other citizens to become involved in government and their community.
Sue currently serves on the Wichita City Council as the representative District II, which is comprised of the east sector of the city.
Sue is a businesswoman who also is a strong advocate for community involvement. She is a very active member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church and serves as a member of the MCB Tennis Foundation. Sue has found success in getting disadvantaged youth involved with sports to bring about positive changes in their lives. She believes that “keeping youth on the courts keeps them out of the courts.”
In her professional life, Sue has worn various hats. From a computer programmer and substitute schoolteacher to a tennis instructor and coach and small business owner, Sue now brings her expertise to the realm of public service.
But public service is not new to the Schlapp family. Sue’s sons are also public servants, one serving on a national level and the other as a member of the Sedgwick county team.
Quality of life is very important to Sue and that shows through her commitment to the community. She wants to make sure that today’s citizens make this city the best that it can be for the generations to come. Citizen involvement is vital to making that happen.
Sue has a bachelor of arts in mathematics from Marymount College, Tarrytown, N.Y. She is the proud mother of four children, sons, Andrew and Matthew; and daughters, Carolyn and Christine. She has 11 grandchildren.
