Tasks Performed by Storm Water Utility

The Storm Water Utility performs the following tasks on a routine basis throughout the year.

  • Cleans 685,000 linear feet of storm lines per year.

  • Televises 50,000 linear feet of storm lines per year.

  • Repairs 300 linear feet of storm lines per year.

  • Cleans 45,000 catch basins per year.

  • Repairs 300 inlets/man holes per year.

  • Has a mowing contractor mow approximately 3,900 acres of in town creeks and drains right-of-way.

  • Repairs 6,500 cubic yards of erosion per year.

  • Does 7,000 cubic yards of bank stabilization throughout the City.

  • Removes 2,000 cubic yards of debris from bridges and culverts.

  • Uses about $600,000 a year to solve local neighborhood drainage problems.

  • Runs the storm water pollution prevention program for the City. This is a requirement of the Federal/State National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit.

  • Operates and maintains six pump stations.

  • Investigates drainage concerns from citizens and determines possible solutions.
