Court Liaison Section

The Court Liaison Section coordinates communication between court prosecutors and police personnel. The main function of the Court Liaison Section is to call in those employees necessary to testify to minimize hours spent in court.

The Court Liaison Section has four employees, including a supervisor and three coordinators. The Section strives to provide a high level of customer service to police personnel and court personnel. One supervisor and one employee work in the Sedgwick County Courthouse to coordinate District Court appearances and the other two employees work in the City Building to facilitate Municipal Court appearances.

The Court Liaison Section supervisor reports to the Administrative Services Bureau commander.  This person oversees the notification and attendance of all WPD employees to all city, state, and federal courts.  The Court Liaison Section prepares dockets for jury trials, preliminary hearings, bench trials, parole violation hearings, evidentiary hearings, driver's license hearings and six daily Municipal Court trial venues. They also make notification calls to officers who are needed for court and serve as an information source for anyone who has court-related questions. WPD personnel and prosecutors are assisted in resolving scheduling conflicts and any issues involving subpoenas. The Section retrieves cases, pictures, and information requested by prosecutors.
