Question and Answer
Q: A concerned citizen sent an email asking about the grafitti near 3rd and Meridian.
A: Officer Winder has an open complaint on this issue. The complaint details for all officers and supervisors to be aware of the problem and look for possible suspects in the area.
Officer Winder recommends that any citizen who notices someone in the area that looks suspicious to call 911 and let an officer come contact the person. Since the grafitti has occurred during the day as well as at night the only way it acn be stopped si with your help.
Q: A concerned citizen called Patrol West about speeding in the 200 block of N. Kessler.
A: Traffic on several residential streets near West street has increased due to the construction on West as well as Douglas. Officer Winder and other 14 beat officers have monitored the traffic at this location as well as on McComas. Several hours have been spent at each location and there have been no violations sighted. The speed limit in residential areas is 30mph unless otherwise posted.

National Night Out Wichita residents are once again invited to join thousands of other communities across America in supporting a unique, coast-to coast crime prevention project on August 5th, 2008 to give neighborhood crime and drugs a "going away" party. On August 5th from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m., residents city wide and across the nation, will be asked to turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside on their block.
Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness. Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs. Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships. Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. Generate support for starting Neighborhood watch groups.

For the months of May and June the Sunflower NHA has chosen the area of Gordon and St. Louis for the area of focus. If you would like to see the signs in your neighborhood or would like to know where they will be posted next month please feel free to come to the Sunflower Neighborhood Association meeting held every first Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm at the independent living center located at 3033 W. 2nd.
