Crime Prevention Tips of the Month

Do not carry large amounts of cash.

Shop with a relative or friend.

Do not leave a purse unattended in a shopping cart, and keep your purse zipped.

Place a wallet in a front pocket or jacket front pocket.

Be aware of who is around you.

Park in well-lit areas.

After parking your vehicle, and prior to going into a mall or store, be sure that all valuables are hidden from view or placed into your trunk.

Do not leave your unattended vehicle unlocked.

Ask mall security officers or store security officers to escort you to your vehicle if you do not feel safe walking to your vehicle alone.

Call 911 immediately if you see someone acting suspicious in a store, in a parking lot, or around a vehicle. Please call 911 even if you slightly suspect something suspicious. During this holiday season the Wichita Police Department would rather make several calls on possible suspicious activity, where everything is legitimate, than not receive a call of suspicious activity, which resulted in a vehicle being broken into or other criminal activity.
