Volunteer of the Year

Detective Jose Salcido is this year’s Officer of the Year.  He is a 7-year veteran of the Department and is currently assigned to the Gang/Felony Assault Section of the Crimes Against Persons Bureau.  He has no problem working the high volume of cases that are assigned to him for follow-up.  He is bi-lingual and his Spanish speaking skills are a tremendous asset to the Section, Bureau and Department.  Detective Salcido has received several departmental recognitions including a Bronze Wreath of Merit for his actions on a rape case that resulted in the capture of the suspect and a Certificate of Commendation for the role he played in the apprehension and prosecution of a Mexican national that abducted two children. 

 
 
 

This years Non-Sworn Employee of the Year is Christine Story.  She has worked for the department for over 7 years and has been assigned to the misdemeanor Domestic Violence Office since June 2001.  In October 2002 she was recognized at the Annual Domestic Violence Coalition Regional Seminar for her exemplary work in the field of Domestic Violence.  Christine is an outstanding representative of the Wichita Police Department who truly  cares about the needs of people and the service she provides to them.  Her positive actions and influences within the area of domestic violence services providers set the example for others to follow. 


Reserve Captain Henry Donaldson is this year’s Cooper/McKee Volunteer of the Year.  Captain Donaldson is being recognized for his outstanding service to the Wichita Police Department, the law enforcement community and the at-risk youth of Wichita.  Henry has demonstrated an extraordinary effort for the department directly benefiting the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Kevin Easter Cops For Kids bowling fundraising event.  In September of 2002, it was announced that Henry was the top fundraiser among over 600 law enforcement bowlers.  Reserve Captain Donaldson has served as a volunteer Police Reserve Officer since 1990.  He has donated 6,976 hours of volunteer service over his thirteen-year reserve career.
