The City of Wichita opened its second “mini” Skatepark at Orchard Park, 4808 W. 9th Street, in December 2005. The 40’ x 66’ park, designed by SK8Park International, is the result of a collaborative effort between the City, Department of Park and Recreation, Police Department, the Orchard Park Neighborhood Association and numerous corporate and private donors, including the Wichita Area Builders Association; Cox Communications; Cornejo and Sons, Inc.; Voegeli Concrete Construction; Signature Exploratory Theatre and Arts; Sunflower Neighborhood & Business Association; Riverside Citizens Association; Signs & Design, Inc.; The Wichita Eagle; Wichita Independent Neighborhoods, Inc.; the GreenWay Alliance; Grace Wu Kung-Fu School; The Pusher; Quik Trip Corporation; The Wal-Mart Foundation; the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #5, Wes Galyon; Bill Warren; and Dan Monnat as well as the neighborhood kids who volunteered and sold wristbands, T-shirts and held car washes to help fund the project.
City Park and Recreation Department employees installed the equipment at the park which includes an 18”- 3 sided corner pyramid; a 2’ x 2’ x 6’ ollie box; a 12” x 24” arch rail slide; a 2’ x 8’ quarter pipe and a 2’ x 8’ spine ramp.
