The 2008 Kansas Recreation & Park Association (KRPA) Annual Conference was one of the best held. Through the hard work and dedication of the Wichita Park & Recreation staff, the KRPA had the highest attendance record yet. It was also one of our best years as the Wichita park & Recreation Department Director nominated Ms. Sharon Fearey, Vice-Mayor and District VI Councilmember for her dedicated service and her commitment to improve our community, neighborhoods and recreational programs.
We are very honor that Ms. Sharon Fearey received the 2008 KRPA Distinguished Elected Official Award.
For those citizens that may not know Ms. Fearey, she is a Wichita native who has dedicated both her time and service to the citizens of this community. Ms. Fearey is currently the Vice-Mayor and Wichita City Council District VI Representative, where she serves as a leader to this community. She has a vision for the future and a drive to preserve Wichita’s rich heritage, cultural diversity and open spaces.
Not only is she a strong supporter of the Park & Recreation Department, but she has extensive knowledge of local government and community service. She believes in our mission of creating Community through People, Parks and Programs and demonstrates this through her high level of leadership. Along with our other elected officials and colleagues it is through their vision and through their and commitment to resolve community issues that we can improve our neighborhoods and community.
Ms. Fearey has been involved in a multitude of Community Projects & Initiatives over the years. Her accomplishments and service recognition include:
