Come and join the rich tradition of the Greater Wichita Junior Football League! The Greater Wichita Junior Football League has played host to some of the area’s best talent. For the public’s convenience we have placed eight fields within our City Parks. We also offer FREE practice sites for all team that participate in the Greater Wichita Junior Football League. If you would like to be part of one of the most recognized leagues in the Midwest please contact any of the Organizational Directors on the Youth Athletics page or contact Mickey Lara at 268-4123. TO PUT ALL RUMORS TO REST THE CITY OF WICHITA WILL HAVE THE GREATER WICHITA JUNIOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE. |

Exercise Classes Air on City7 Park and Recreation Department showcases fitness classes
The City of Wichita Park and Recreation Department is helping citizens become healthier by showing fitness classes on City7, Cox Cable Channel 7. The classes include Yoga, Step Aerobics and 50+ Fitness. They are shown every day at 5:30am and 8:00am. “The Park and Recreation Department wants to do its part in encouraging citizens to exercise and become more fit,” said Doug Kupper, Director of Park and Recreation. “These three classes, taught by our instructors are just a sample of what we offer at City Recreation Centers.”

The mission of the Park and Recreation Department is to provide a cost-effective system of safe and attractive parks and recreation land, facilities and programs that enhance the beautification of the City, provide for the leisure time pursuits of all Wichita residents and visitors, and promote appreciation of the City’s environmental resources.
The Park and Recreation Department:
- Provides recreational opportunities
- Maintains landscaping at City parks, facilities & along right-of-ways
- Operates a number of cultural and performing arts facilities.
The department supports:
- 4,347 acres of parks and greenways
- 2,407 acres of rights-of-way (medians, highways, arterials and boulevards)
- 10 recreation centers
- 11 swimming pools
- 52 athletic fields
- 5 golf courses
- 8 interactive fountains
- Numerous adult & youth-based activities & athletics programs.

The Park and Recreation Department offers:
- Indoor & outdoor facilities for rental to public and private groups
- A broad range of recreation classes
- Athletic programs
- The Wichita Ice Center
- Special event opportunities.

The Health and Wellness Coalition is another organization that promotes physical activity and good nutrition through programs and policies.
