Alternative Correctional Housing (ACH) Advisory Board

The ACH Board conducts advises the City Council on matters relative to alternative correctional housing and licensing/audit requirements. The ACH Board currently conducts public hearing required for varying the license ordinance requirement that new facilities be at least 1,200’ from certain designated "incompatible uses" such as residential zoning, schools, public parks or playgrounds, or other alternative correctional housing facilities.

The ACH Board’s primary focus/responsibilities include:

  1. advising the City Council on matters pertaining to Alternative Correctional Housing;

  2. reviewing and recommending proposed amendments to the Alternative Correctional Housing Ordinance and related City codes;

  3. conducting certain appeal hearings related to denial of Alternative Correctional Housing facility licenses (and making recommendations to City Council on such appeal actions); and

  4. monitoring annual licensed facility audits and code enforcement actions.

However, the role of the ACH Board is currently being reviewed in association with a recent report provided to the City Council and others from the Offender Re-Entry Task Force. It is possible that the ACH Board may eventually be disbanded as a result of recommendations and/or programs set forth in the Offender Re-Entry Task Force Report.

Board Members Information

The ACH Board is a City Council-appointed seven-member board consisting of: one member with expertise in community corrections; one member with expertise in the court system; one member with expertise in probation; one member with expertise in law enforcement; one member with expertise in parole; and two (2) members who are neighborhood representatives.
