Office of Central Inspection (OCI)
The mission of the Office of Central Inspection (OCI) is to promote, enhance and ensure a safe, sanitary and healthy environment for every building in which Wichitans live and work, and to promote and enhance strong, stable and healthy neighborhoods throughout Wichita.
OCI is a self-sustaining special revenue fund financed primarily through permits, licenses, and plan review fees.

Administration The administrative section is responsible for writing all trade permits, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, elevator and sign permits. They also maintain records on all the licensed contractors.

Mechanical/Plumbing Inspection All mechanical/plumbing work for which a permit is required shall be subject to inspection by Central Inspection. It is the responsibility of the mechanical/plumbing inspector to conduct all required inspections.
Neighborhood Inspection The Neighborhood Inspection Section is responsible for enforcement of the Housing Code (housing maintenance) for existing housing, and residential zoning code issues (i.e. illegal home occupations, signs on right-of-way, etc.) See the list of condemnations scheduled to be heard before the City Council.

Residential Building Permits The Residential Building Permits desk staff is responsible for writing all residential permits, roofing/siding permits, demolition permits, miscellaneous permits, assigning/changing addresses, logging in commercial plans, and issuing commercial permits.
Sign Permits & Inspection Enforces sign code, concerning commercial sign permit applications, portable sign permits applications, temporary sign permit applications, commercial balloon permit applications, sign complaints.
Zoning Responds to commercial Zoning complaints concerning land use violations i.e. illegal businesses and activities. Other specific duties include inspections and license approval activities for a variety of licenses.
