| Fire Prevention has traditionally been a high priority with the Wichita Fire Department. From its earliest days prevention activities have had a place in the hearts of Wichita's Fire Chiefs and that tradition continues. The Fire Prevention Division in 1987 is composed of 20 dedicated personnel operating from three sections, under the command of Fire Marshal. These sections, Public Education, Fire Investigation, and Fire Inspection provide the department's code enforcement and education programs which are designed to make Wichita safe from fire.
In Wichita's early days inspectors from the National Board of Fire Underwriters and Kansas State Fire Underwriters Association frequently visited to evaluate the City's Fire Department. Their evaluations and findings helped to mold the department into a progressive provider of fire safety through fire prevention.
Personnel assigned to the division have an intense desire like that of their predecessors, to protect the citizenry through fire prevention.
