Personal business leave (one day per year) was approved, chargeable to sick leave.

For the second time in the history of the Wichita Fire Department, the color of apparatus was changed from the traditional "Fire Engine Red" to a lime-yellow. The first instance was Brownewell's blue car. From this time on, only the new colored machines would be purchased and gradually the red fire truck will fade into the past - reminiscent of the old fire steed giving way to motors.
