| The City granted a $15 salary increase to all City employees. This was the eighth raise since Pearl Harbor Day in 1941, and by January 1, 1947, firemen were receiving $175 starting pay and $215 for first class men.
In April of 1947, six Wichita firemen were sent to Woodward, Oklahoma to aid victims after a tornado struck that city.
August 7, the Price Auto fire, 301 S. Topeka occurred; the loss in this blaze was set at $350,000. Fire Chief Brown was a crusader in fire prevention as he believed in the concept and actively supported it.
