Public questions about the proposed 2009 budget for the City of Wichita will be answered during a televised town hall meeting Thursday, July 24, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the City Council chambers of City Hall, 455 N. Main.

The program will include a brief introductory video explaining highlights of the proposed budget, followed by a question and answer session hosted by City of Wichita Finance Director Kelly Carpenter. Other department heads will also be present to provide additional information.

Members of the six City Council District Advisory Boards have been invited to offer questions and comments about the budget. Members of the public will be given the same opportunity.

Viewers on City7 can also participate by submitting email questions. The email address is budget_questions@wichita.gov. Questions will either be answered during the telecast or in follow-up email responses by the Finance Department. Email questions can also be submitted any time prior to adoption of the budget on Aug. 12.

The program will air live on City7, the City of Wichita’s cable channel. It will replay at 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays and 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. Mondays through Friday until the adoption of the budget in August.  Schedule updates can be viewed on the City7 program guide on the City’s website at www.wichita.gov.

In addition to the July 24 hearing, public sessions on the proposed budget will be offered at City Council meetings on Aug. 5th and Aug. 12th. All Council meetings begin at 9 am and are held in the First Floor Council Chambers of City Hall at 455 North Main.

The City Council will officially adopt the final version of the 2009 budget at its Aug. 12th meeting.

Persons planning to attend the July 24 session are encouraged to arrive early to provide time for security screening.
