The Wichita Fire Department urges citizens to pay special attention to the labeling of fireworks to ensure safe and legal usage.

Important points include:

• All fireworks labeled as “warning: shoots flaming balls” are illegal in the City of Wichita.

• Sky rockets, bottle rockets and M-80s are illegal in the State of Kansas and also violate federal law. These products should not be purchased from “bootleggers” or brought into the State.

• Fireworks such as “fountains” and others labeled as “emits showers or sparks” are legal in the City of Wichita.

• Sparklers burn at a very high temperature and can easily ignite clothing and stay hot long after burning out. Precautions should be observed when children are involved.
